Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the Sound Meter: dB Decibel Android app (“the app”) does with your information. In short: the app measures sound on your device and does not send your audio anywhere.
The short version
- Sound from your microphone is analysed on your device, in real time, and is never recorded, saved or uploaded.
- There is no account, no sign-in, and we do not ask you for any personal details.
- The app shows ads through Google AdMob, and Google collects data to serve them. That is the only data collection involved.
1. Who this policy is from
The app is published by NOUVOUS (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at md.sharik5012@gmail.com about anything in this policy.
2. Microphone and audio
The app needs microphone access to work — that is the entire function of a sound level meter. When you press Start, the app reads raw audio from the microphone, calculates a loudness value in decibels, and discards the audio immediately.
Specifically, the app does not:
- record, save or export audio;
- transmit audio off your device;
- perform speech recognition or attempt to identify what is being said;
- listen while the app is closed or in the background.
Audio is only read between pressing Start and pressing Stop. The decibel readings themselves live in memory for the current session and are lost when you close the app.
3. Information stored on your device
The app saves one setting locally: your calibration adjustment, so the meter reads the same way next time you open it. It stays in the app's private storage on your phone, is not sent anywhere, and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
4. Advertising
The app displays ads supplied by Google AdMob. To serve and measure those ads, Google and its advertising partners may collect and process:
- your device's advertising identifier;
- IP address, and an approximate location derived from it;
- device and app information, such as model, operating system version and app version;
- ad interaction data, such as which ads were shown, viewed or tapped.
This data is collected by Google, not by us. We never receive your advertising ID, your location, or any identifier that points back to you personally — only aggregate reporting such as total impressions and revenue.
How Google handles this data is described in:
- Google Privacy Policy
- How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services
- AdMob and data collection
5. Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app shows a consent form before requesting ads, using Google's User Messaging Platform. You choose there whether ads may be personalised. You can reopen that choice at any time from within the app, and withdrawing consent means you will see non-personalised ads instead of personalised ones.
6. Permissions the app requests
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
RECORD_AUDIO |
To measure sound levels. Audio is analysed on-device and discarded, as described in section 2. |
INTERNET |
To load ads. No app data or audio is uploaded. |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Used by the ads library to check connectivity before requesting an ad. |
7. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will act on it.
8. Your choices
- Microphone. You can revoke microphone access at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Sound Meter → Permissions. The measuring function will stop working, but the app will not crash.
- Ad personalisation. Android Settings → Google → Ads lets you reset or delete your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalisation.
- Everything. Uninstalling the app removes all data it stored on your device.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data held about you, and to object to its processing. Because we hold no personal data ourselves, requests about advertising data should go to Google using the links in section 4. We are happy to help you direct a request — just email us.
9. Data retention
We retain nothing, because we collect nothing. Data collected by Google for advertising is retained according to Google's own retention policies, linked in section 4.
10. Security
Since audio never leaves your device and no account exists, there is no server holding your data that could be breached. Locally stored settings are protected by Android's per-app sandbox.
11. Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy — for example if a new feature stores or transmits data — we will update this page and change the “last updated” date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
12. Contact
Questions about this policy, or about privacy in the app:

A note on accuracy, not privacy: the app uses your phone's microphone, which is not a calibrated measuring instrument. Readings are an approximation and vary between devices. The app is not a substitute for a professional sound level meter for occupational, legal or safety purposes.
